General information on Generic Nuvigil

What is Nuvigil and what is it used for?

Nuvigil is a popular psycho stimulant which is often used in the treatment of such diseases as narcolepsy and different sleep disorders (most often associated with work shifts). It is also recommended for people who need to stay awake longer than their body can take, for example, students during exams, businessmen, managers and people leading a nightlife style. The medication is also useful for those who often fly to different time zones (jet lags). So the drug is available off-label. You can buy Nuvigil at any drugstore of the USA, Australia and countries of Europe or order Nuvigil at reliable online pharmacies. It is proven that this medication has a good impact on our brain, but how exactly does it act?

Dophaminergic effects.

The medication can increase levels dopamine in the prefrontal cortex of rats and in the caudate nucleus of dogs. Nuvigil worked on dopamine and noradrenaline receptors and the absence of such effects by mice was associated with the disappearance of the effects associated with sleep, which confirmed that the mechanism of action of Generic Nuvigil really affects sleep processes. Recent researches have shown the insufficient effect of the medication on dopaminergic system, which may be associated with lower dosage which was used previously.

What studies have been conducted?

Some studies on the impact of the drug during intentional deprivation of sleep are negative, while the effect of 300 mg of medication in the period of sleep deprivation is equivalent to receiving 20mg of D-amphetamine. But it was noted that the deterioration of self-control (the ability to accurately assess themselves and their surroundings) changes into the overconfidence (incorrect assessment of what the person is really capable of).    This research continued for 64 hours (during two nights without sleep) using a single dose of Nuvigil every 15 hours. Reception of the drug before going to bed may seriously affect the sleep cycle and lead to subsequent lethargy.

It can also cause side effects (bad mood and worsening of mental abilities). Recurrent hypersomnia is such a phenomenon by which after the expiry of taking the drugs for sleepiness patients want to sleep even more than before the start of their admission. Compared with substances based on amphetamine, Nuvigil does not cause such a phenomenon by rats, cats and mice.   People who did not sleep for 64 hours and were taking the drug, did not show the signs of this phenomenon compared to the results when they were taking D-amphetamine.

Nuvigil does not cause recurrent hypersomnia. Aggravation of attention is observed by sleep deprivation for 10-12 hours after a single dose of 300 mg of the drug, which is equivalent to 20 mg of D-amphetamine. 300 mg dose of the medication from sleepiness is equivalent to the dose of 20mg of second D-amphetamine. Brainstorming sleep cycle is a balance of "a rising activating system" consisting of activating neurotransmitters and neurotransmitters (GABA, galanin) that inhibit the stimulation and promote sleep. Changes in levels of activation and suppression of neurotransmitters forms a kind of cycle "switch-switch".

Nuvigil is able to contact with different stimulator systems, including the serotonergic, noradrenergic, dopaminergic and GABAergic pathways. While some studies the drug was used in the treatment of other diseases, and there was found out that the side effect of insomnia lasted longer than in the placebo group, and that Nuvigil which was taken before bedtime does not let the participants of the experiment sleep. Receiving of the drug promotes mental stress.
