Generic Nuvigil cures sleep disorders
Nuvigil is an analeptic which is widely applied in the treatment of sleepiness that is associated with cases of narcolepsy.
The medication was approved as the cure of sleep disorders (mainly shift work sleep disorder and sleepiness which is associated with obstructive sleep apnea). But European Medicines Agency, however, recommends limiting new appointments of the medicines containing this drug for narcolepsy cases only, in connection with the risk of neuropsychiatric, skin and allergic side effects.
In addition to these indications it is also approved in some countries by state regulatory agencies for the treatment of cases of idiopathic hypersomnia (pathological daytime sleepiness, the reasons of which are not exactly diagnosed). For the treatment of hypersomnia associated with narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea it is recommended taking the drug as a single morning dose of 200 mg.
Although there is evidence of clinical tests, according to which the double application (morning and noon) of 200 mg is more efficient. But single taking of 400 mg of the drug does not significantly increase the efficiency, compared with a dosage of 200 mg. In the treatment of sleepiness associated with shift work, it is advisable single taking of 200 mg of the medication in an hour before the start of the work. A good effect is also achieved with a single application of a dose of 300 mg.
In all cases, the daily dosage should not exceed 400 mg; taking the drug in the second half of the day is not recommended, as it is slowly cleared from the body (half-life is taking at about 12-15 hours) and it can interfere with normal night's sleep. In general, dosing recommendations range from 100 to 400 mg per day in 1-2 reception. You can consult about the details your doctor and buy Nuvigil at any drugstore, or, what is more convenient, order Nuvigil via Internet.
The medication is also widely used without a doctor's prescription for the suppression of sleep need.
It improves short-term memory after sleep deprivation and fights general fatigue which is not connected with the lack of sleep (for example, as the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and as an adjunct to antidepressants for people with significant residual fatigue). In addition, the drug is used by the patients in order to strengthen their capabilities and by physicians for many other purposes.
In the US and many other countries, drugs are registered for only one application, but may be also prescribed by doctors for various purposes to the individual needs of the patients. Such usage is called «off label», and it is widely practiced. Generic Nuvigil is used to treat depression and fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, sleepiness caused by opiates, cerebral palsy and Parkinson's disease. It improves the subjective mood and friendliness, at least, by shift workers, and it is often taken by biorhythm disorders due to the jet lag.
The medication may also be effective and well tolerated as treatment for patients with the syndrome of seasonal affective disorder. There is evidence that this drug, used on its own, is effective for certain subgroups of people with depersonalization disorder. To such subgroups refer people with a lack of attention, low excitability of the nervous system and increased sleepiness. However, the clinical trials have not been conducted yet. Dr. Evan Torch calls the combination of SSR1 and Nuvigil the «hidden gem that can really help cure depersonalization disorder».
